2016(HONORABLE MENTION) / Competition BERLIN UNIVERSITY RESIDENCES – HOB, ARCHmedium. Barcelona, España
How would you like to live? is the question posed by the architectural competition BERLIN UNIVERSITY RESIDENCIES, which refers to the redefinition of collective models of temporary living in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. The Kreuzberg district is the site of an alternative youth culture, and Berlin itself is today one of the world’s cultural metropolises. Despite the painful past of the twentieth century, the city of Berlioa today is an example of religious tolerance and multicultural coexistence, a university city where young people from Germany and the rest of the world come to study, create and socialize.
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO LIVE?
– In the sense of different urban life fragments we define our elements as a starting points of creating new living experience and spatial concept. Identifying qualities of the surrounding area define through main elements such as active ground floor and pocket spaces, which is important to find new solution, new answer.
The building integrates active ground floor with possibility for different alternative activities (public “living room”) making relation between inside and out, and pocket spaces creating common courtyards.
The program structure is dived in two parts, open public and closed private space. Relations between these two parts are made through all common services who had a logical and rational circulation. A private space includes all typologies of rooms grouped in one module. Together they create a platform lifted from the ground. This kind of private space allows better qualities for living, studding and socializing.
At the competition for the Berlin University residences, organized by ArchMedium 285 projects arrived, three first places and 10 prizes were awarded. The project of the students Sinisa Pavlovski, Ilija Mircheski (SP! M) from the Faculty of Architecture in Skopje, University “St. Cyril and Methodius “, is the winner of one of the honorary praise.
